Double-offset (high-performance) butterfly valves position the disc's seating axis offset from both the shaft centreline and the bore centreline, lifting the disc off the seat immediately on opening. This eliminates the constant seat friction of concentric valves, enabling higher pressure ratings and longer seat life. Frequently Asked Questions

A double-offset (high-performance) butterfly valve offsets the disc's sealing axis from both the shaft centre and the pipe bore centre. This geometry lifts the disc away from the seat as soon as the valve starts to open, avoiding the continuous rubbing contact seen in concentric designs — resulting in lower operating torque, less seat wear, and suitability for higher pressure classes.

A concentric valve's disc rubs against the seat throughout the entire stroke, limiting it to low pressure and shorter seat life. A double-offset valve's disc only contacts the seat at the final degrees of closing, which is why it can achieve Class 150#/300# ratings with PTFE or metal seats, versus PN 16 max for typical concentric rubber-lined valves.

PTFE and Reinforced PTFE (RPTFE) seats for standard process service, and metal seats (SS/Stellite-faced) for high-temperature steam or abrasive service where soft seats aren't suitable.
